Building A Relationship With God

This week I had an interesting insight. I was pondering trials and my children and the following occurred to me:

The most crucial time to build a relationship with God is when things are going well and are stable (usually childhood). Then, when life happens and the storms come, we not only know in whom to rely but we have a relationship with him, and we know how to recognize his guidance which we so desperately need in those rough times.

As I thought further on this realized that it applies to missionary work just as well. Yes, childhood seems to be the best time to build a relationship with God but anytime one does so, it does as President Hinckley said and,  "It gives them a new outlook on life. It gives them a perspective that they have never felt before. It raises their sights to things noble and divine. Something happens to them that is miraculous to behold. They look to Christ and come alive.”

It is our responsibility and privilege to be witnesses of Christ at all times and in all places, to let our light shine by inviting the people that we meet and those that we know to be a part of the gospel; to bring that light into their lives. I know that as we do we grow closer to God and to those that we love.
